Admission Guide for International Students at Tsinghua University

Tsinghua is home to a remarkably diverse community. In 2019, more than 4,000 international students from over 130 countries were enrolled, including more than 3,200 degree students and over 700 non-degree students. Worldwide, more than 30,000 Tsinghua international alumni make significant contributions to social, scientific, economic, and sustainable development.

Tsinghua’s diversity of student population is reflected in its diversity of programs! 20 schools and 59 departments cover disciplines in science, engineering, literature, art, history, philosophy, economics, management, law, education, and medicine. International students can choose from more than 60 undergraduate programs, 100 master’s programs, and 90 doctoral programs, among which 21 master’s programs and 8 doctoral programs are delivered fully in English. More than 500 courses in English are available to students across the university.

Tsinghua University offers a wide range of programs for international students at various academic levels:

1. Degree Programs:

• Undergraduate Programs: International students can join diverse fields of study with certain programs offered in English, alongside the opportunity to enhance their Chinese language skills.

• Graduate Programs: Master’s and doctoral programs are available in numerous disciplines. Many programs are taught in English, emphasizing research and creative thinking. These programs cater to both academic and professional tracks .

2. Non-Degree Programs:

• Visiting and Exchange Programs: Tsinghua partners with over 200 universities worldwide, allowing students to attend for one or two semesters. English-taught courses and Chinese language courses are available to exchange students .

• Chinese Language Program: Designed for non-degree students, this program focuses on improving Chinese language skills and understanding Chinese culture. It includes a semester-based curriculum .

3. Specialized Programs:

• Summer Schools: Various summer school opportunities are available, including programs focused on construction, theoretical neuroscience, large language models, and leadership development .

• Short-term Workshops and Seminars: These are aimed at fostering academic development and cross-cultural exchange in niche fields .
