Short-term Training Program

NJU’s short-term language training program provides Chinese language and cultural courses. The crash courses feature experienced language teachers and intensive training in Chinese listening, oral Chinese, Chinese reading and writing. Such short-term programs are exclusive to the groups organized by the overseas educational institutes that have cooperation agreements with Nanjing University, i.e., the programs are unavailable for individual applicants.

  • Study Duration: The programs’ time length and syllabus can be adjusted according to the various needs of NJU’s partners. Normally, a program can last for 2 to 12 weeks.

  • Cultural Courses: Chinese Calligraphy/Chinese Painting/Tai Chi/Ancient Chinese History/Modern History of China/Chinese Philosophy/Contemporary Economy of China/Chinese Poetry/Ancient Chinese/Foreign Policy of Contemporary China…
  • Cultural Activities: Tours of the historical and cultural sites in Nanjing and neighboring areas can be arranged. Extra fees will be charged.
  • Language Practice: Exchanges with Chinese students and teaching observation & practice can be organized.

Long-term Training Program

This program is specifically designed by Nanjing University for international students who are interested in learning Chinese and improving their proficiency in the language. It is taught by experienced Chinese language teachers, and it provides intensive training in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and HSK exam guidance. The program curriculum is divided into various levels based on the Chinese language proficiency of the students, including language courses for beginner, elementary, and intermediate level students, as well as a“Chinese+”curriculum for building comprehensive skills for international students with advanced Chinese proficiency. Teaching is carried out in small-sized classes and tailored in an individualized way. Students study on Gulou Campus of Nanjing University.

  • Study Duration: 6 months to 2 years, 20 class hours per week.
  • Chinese Language Courses: Comprehensive Chinese (beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels), Chinese Listening and Speaking (beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels), Chinese Writing (intermediate and advanced levels), Newspaper Reading (intermediate and advanced levels)
  • Cultural Courses: Intermediate Business Chinese, Advanced Business Chinese, Application of Chinese Computer Software, Learning Chinese by Watching Movies, Chinese Characters and Chinese Culture, Discussions on Social Hotspots, Selected Chinese Ancient Poetry, Concise Chinese History, Chinese Modern and Contemporary Literature, etc.
  • Culture Experience Courses: Tai Chi, Tea Art, Paper Cuttings, etc.
  • Chinese+ Curriculum: Chinese History Module, Chinese Contemporary Economy and Trade Module
  • Cultural Activities: Visit historical and cultural attractions in and around Nanjing.
  • Language Practice: Communications with Chinese students, Chinese recitation and speech contests, Teaching visits and internships, etc.

Application Window

  • Spring Semester: From October. 10th to December 25th, until the quota is full;
  • Autumn Semester: From March. 10th to June 25th, until the quota is full.

Application Qualifications

  • Applicant should be at least 18 years old, in good health, and hold a valid foreign passport.
  • Language Requirement: Test result of the Chinese Proficiency Test should be“Advanced Level”

Expenses (unit: CNY)

  • Tuition: 10,500.00 RMB/semester, 21,000.00 RMB/academic year
  • Application: 500.00 RMB/person (non-refundable)
  • Insurance: 400.00 RMB/semester
  • Teaching Materials: paid at actual price.

Admission Steps

1. After submitting the application, applicant will receive the preliminary review results within five working days; Applicant who has passed the preliminary review should pay the application fee online as required. Nanjing University will promptly inform the applicant of the final admission result through email or on-site letter. Within one month after confirmation of admission, Nanjing University will send the electronic version of“Nanjing University Foreign Student Admission Notice” and the electronic version of the “Foreign Student Visa Application Form” (JW202 Form/DQ Form) to the applicant. Applicant can download the JW202 Form/DQ Form on their own. If not admitted, applicant will be notified by email before the application process ends.

2. The admitted student should present the Admission Notice and JW202 Form/DQ Form to the Chinese embassy (consulate) to apply for the student visa (X1 or X2) to study in China.

3. The admitted student should bring the original copy of the “Nanjing University Foreign Student Admission Notice”, JW202 Form/DQ Form, and “Foreigner Physical Examination Form” (the validity period of this form lasts only 6 months and it is a necessary document for a residence permit application after coming to China. Please arrange the physical examination time properly. Please refer to the “Entry Personnel Physical Examination Instructions” for the requirements of the physical examination after entering China) to register at the Institute for International Students Nanjing University at the specified time.

Starting Time

The program starts in February and September each year, and the specific time is subject to the admission notice.
