Non-degree Language Program
Students in the Chinese Language Program study Chinese at the School of International Cultural Exchange. Applicants should have at least a high school diploma.
Application Qualifications
- Non-Chinese citizens holding ordinary foreign passports who meet the relevant provisions of the Nationality Law of the People’s Republic of China.
- Physically and mentally healthy, friendly to China, and have no criminal record.
- Have language skills that are competent for the training program: There is no Chinese language foundation requirement for applicants for the Chinese training program.
- Applicants who have foreign nationality since birth and whose parents are both or one of them is a Chinese citizen at birth, or who were originally residents of mainland China (mainland), Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and later immigrated abroad and obtained foreign nationality, must meet the requirements of the Ministry of Education of China’s Foreign Affairs Letter [2020] No. 12, and provide nationality certification materials in accordance with the school’s admission requirements. Whether an applicant has both foreign nationality and the nationality of the People’s Republic of China shall be based on the nationality determination conclusion of the relevant management departments of the Chinese public security organs.

Application Process
- Online Application
Applicants must submit application information and upload application materials through our international student application system (https://international.ruc.edu.cn/application) within the specified time, and pay the application fee online as prompted by the system to complete the online application process. The application fee is RMB 800, and the fee is non-refundable once paid. - Qualification Review
After the applicant completes the online application, the school will conduct a preliminary qualification review. If the submitted information or materials do not pass the review, the relevant information or materials must be resubmitted through the system in a timely manner as required. - Material Mailing
Applicants must mail the paper version of the application materials to our school via EMS or SF Express within one week after passing the qualification review. - Professional Assessment
After the applicant’s qualification review is passed, the college will review his/her application materials. After the materials review is passed, the college will notify the applicant to participate in the professional assessment. - Admission and Enrollment
When registering for admission, the school will review the applicant’s information and materials for admission qualifications. If there are any violations, fraud, etc., once verified, the school will cancel their admission qualifications.

After the online application is completed, it can be downloaded and the applicant must print and sign to confirm.
Original copy of the highest academic degree certificate or original copy of the enrollment certificate
If the applicant has graduated and obtained a degree, he/she must provide the original notarized copy of the highest academic degree certificate certified by the Ministry of Education of China, the Ministry of Education of his/her own country or its authorized official academic degree certification department; if the applicant is a graduating student, he/she must first submit the original copy of the expected graduation certificate and submit the academic degree certificate before admission; if the applicant is a student, he/she must submit the original copy of the enrollment certificate issued by the school he/she is attending.
Original or notarized copy of the transcript
The transcript should include the grades of all courses in the highest academic education stage. Transcripts that are not based on a percentage system should include a grade annotation page.
Copy of passport personal information page
Applicants should submit their applications with an ordinary passport, which shall be valid no earlier than March 31, 2026. Applicants currently in China must also provide a copy of their valid residence permit in China.
Note:
(1) The school does not accept applicants holding the following documents as international students: “Travel Permit of the People’s Republic of China”, “Entry and Exit Permit of the People’s Republic of China”, “Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents”, “Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents”, “Residence Permit of the People’s Republic of China for Hong Kong, Macao/Taiwan Residents”, etc.
(2) Applicants are not allowed to change their passports or personal basic information without authorization from the date of application to 3 months after admission, including but not limited to personal name, gender, date of birth, nationality, passport number, etc. If it is necessary to change the passport or change personal basic information due to extremely special circumstances or force majeure, the applicant should submit a written application to the school and obtain consent.
If the applicant changes the passport or changes the personal basic information without authorization, resulting in inconsistency with the relevant information at the time of application and admission, the school will not process the admission registration procedures.
One letter of recommendation
The letter of recommendation must be issued and signed by a professor or associate professor (or an expert with equivalent professional and technical titles) in the applied professional field; the letter of recommendation must reflect the name, position or title, school and email address of the recommender.
Personal statement and study plan
Written in Chinese/English. The content should include personal experience, academic achievements, research plans, future career plans, etc., and should be no less than 1,000 words.
Original copy of the “Physical Examination Form for Foreigners” (valid for 6 months)
The form is printed uniformly by the Chinese health and quarantine department and can be downloaded from the website of our International Students Office
(http://iso.ruc.edu.cn). Applicants must go to a regular medical institution in their area to undergo a physical examination in strict accordance with the items listed in the form, and provide the school with the original or notarized copy of the examination form filled in Chinese/English, signed and stamped by the doctor. If the physical examination form cannot be provided due to extremely special circumstances, please contact the school separately to explain the situation.
Original copy of language proficiency certificate
Applicants for Chinese-taught general and advanced programs shall provide original copy of HSK score report (valid for 2 years), which shall be sent directly to our school by Hankao International. Individual submission is not accepted. Applicants may apply for this service on the Chinese Language Test Service Website (www.chinesetest.cn); if the language of instruction of the applicant’s previous/current academic degree is Chinese, the applicant may provide relevant study certificate and apply for exemption from language proficiency certificate; if the applicant’s native language is Chinese, the applicant may apply for exemption from language proficiency certificate.
Applicants for English-taught general and advanced programs shall provide original copy of IELTS or TOEFL test scores;
If the language of instruction of the applicant’s previous/current academic degree is English, the applicant may provide relevant study certificate and apply for exemption from language proficiency certificate; if the applicant’s native language is English, the applicant may apply for exemption from language proficiency certificate.
Original copy of certificate of no criminal record
(1) Applicants in China shall provide a valid certificate of no criminal record in China;
(2) Applicants not in China shall provide a certificate of no criminal record issued by the public security administration department of the country of residence.
School location, study period, enrollment majors and tuition fees
According to the school charter, our school locations include Zhongguancun Campus, Tongzhou Campus and Suzhou Campus. The basic study period for all training programs is one semester or one academic year. For details on the study period, enrollment majors and tuition fees, please refer to the “Catalogue of Enrollment Majors for International Students in the 2025 Training Programs of Renmin University of China”.
Scholarships
- Chinese Government Scholarship (Type A) Further Study Program
Applicants can apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship (Type A) Further Study Program through the relevant dispatching departments of their countries (such as Chinese embassies and consulates abroad). Please be sure to consult the relevant dispatching departments in advance for specific arrangements and requirements. Applicants must log in to the “Chinese Government Scholarship Study in China Management Information System” (https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn) to register and fill out the “Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form”, select “Type A” as the scholarship category, and select “Renmin University of China” as the first choice in the “Applying School” column.
Applicants who are eligible for Chinese Government Scholarship and are invited to the school by the China Scholarship Council must pass the school’s qualification review and professional assessment before they can obtain the intended admission qualification. - International Chinese Teacher Scholarship Chinese Language Further Study Program
Applicants can apply for the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship Chinese Language Further Study Program through the China Language Exchange and Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Education of China (hereinafter referred to as the “Language Exchange and Cooperation Center”). The Language Exchange and Cooperation Center organizes registration and assessment, and invites the school to review and admission. Insurance in China
According to the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education of China, international students must purchase insurance for studying in China during their study in China (for details, please refer to: http://www.lxbx.net). If you fail to purchase medical insurance as required, the school will not process the registration procedures.
Accommodation in China
The school provides on-campus accommodation including single and double rooms for new students to book. For accommodation conditions and booking procedures, please refer to the “Accommodation Reservation Form” issued before admission. In accordance with the relevant laws and regulations of China, new students who live off-campus must go to the local public security agency to register for accommodation within 24 hours of check-in.
Visa to China
Applicants who have obtained the formal admission qualification of the school should apply for a visa to study in China at the Chinese embassy or consulate abroad with the admission notice issued by the school and the application form for studying in China (JW201/202 form). Students who study for more than 6 months must apply for an X1 visa and apply to the school to convert the X1 visa into a study residence permit within 30 days of arriving in China; students who study for less than 6 months must apply for an X2 visa.
