China Scholarships 2027: The Month-by-Month Application Calendar
Most China scholarships 2027 dates have not been announced yet. That is normal. Embassies usually publish their Chinese Government Scholarship notices in late October, and universities follow in November and December. Still, the cycle repeats closely enough from year to year that you can plan now. In fact, the applications that win in February are mostly put together in autumn.
So this is a calendar, not a how-to. It runs from September 2026 to August 2027 and follows four tracks side by side: the Chinese Government Scholarship, provincial awards, university awards and the Chinese teachers’ scholarship. Every date comes from the 2026/2027 round, and each one is labelled as last year’s. For the application itself, read the CSC scholarship application, step by step.
The Four Clocks Behind China Scholarships 2027
Each scholarship runs on its own timetable, which is why no single deadline exists. Here is how they differ:
- Chinese Government Scholarship, Type A: through your country’s Chinese embassy. The earliest deadlines, usually in February.
- Chinese Government Scholarship, Type B: directly to a university. Windows typically open around December and close between February and April.
- Provincial and city awards: Shanghai, Beijing, Jiangsu and others. These close later, often from April to June.
- International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship: applications open on 1 March, with separate deadlines for each intake.
The overlap is the useful part. A provincial award that closes in May can catch you if a CSC application fails in March. Our guide to scholarships in China explains what each one covers.
September–October 2026: Build Your China Scholarships 2027 File
Shortlist, and ask the questions early
Pick three universities, because the CSC system lets you rank up to three. Next, email each admissions office and ask for its Type B agency number, its pre-admission letter process and which CSCA subjects your major needs. Offices answer slowly in December. In September they reply.
Notarise now, but hold the medical
Get your diploma and transcripts notarised now, since they do not expire. Wait on the foreigner physical examination form and the police certificate, though. Hunan Normal University, for example, requires both to be dated within six months (Hunan Normal University, 2025). The University of Science and Technology Beijing accepts a police certificate only within three months (University of Science and Technology Beijing, 2026).
A medical taken in September expires before a May deadline. So book it for November or December.
The one deadline still live: 31 October
The Chinese teachers’ scholarship has an intake that starts in March 2027. Applications for it close on 31 October 2026, Beijing time (Beijing Institute of Technology, 2026). Hunan Normal University uses that date for its one-semester place, which needs HSK 3 at 180 plus an HSKK score.
November–December 2026: The Notices Arrive
Embassy and university windows open
Last round, the Chinese embassy in Washington posted its notice on 22 October 2025, and the embassy in Jakarta followed on 27 October (Embassy of the PRC in the United States, 2025; Embassy of the PRC in Indonesia, 2025). The Shanghai Government Scholarship opened on 1 November 2025. Xiamen University’s Type B window opened on 1 December (East China University of Political Science and Law, 2025; Xiamen University, 2026).
Watch your own embassy’s page from mid-October. Check it weekly, not daily.
The December CSCA sitting
Undergraduate applicants to CSC universities need a CSCA score. The test runs five times a year: January, March, April, June and December (Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, 2025). The first-ever sitting took place on 21 December 2025.
As of 11 September 2026, the official site had not yet posted a December 2026 date (CSCA, 2026). Once it does, register immediately. A December score is the safe choice for any February deadline. Our CSCA exam guide covers the subjects.
January–February 2027: The First Deadlines
This is when most Type A applications close. For comparison, last round’s dates:
- 25 January 2026: the January CSCA sitting. Online scores come back within seven working days, which is cutting it fine for early February.
- 8 February 2026: the Jakarta embassy’s online deadline (Embassy of the PRC in Indonesia, 2025).
- 15 February 2026: Xiamen University’s Type B window closed (Xiamen University, 2026).
- 16 February 2026: the Washington embassy’s online application date, with interviews from 20 to 23 February (Embassy of the PRC in the United States, 2025).
Your country’s date may differ by a week or more. Put the real one in your diary the day the notice appears.
March–June 2027: The Second Wave
Provincial and city awards
Many applicants miss that these awards close later, and in some cases open late too:
- Shanghai Government Scholarship: the 2026 window closed on 30 April, through study-shanghai.cn (East China University of Political Science and Law, 2025).
- Beijing Government Scholarship: at USTB it ran from 1 April to 15 June 2026, with results in July (University of Science and Technology Beijing, 2026).
- Jasmine Jiangsu Government Scholarship: Hohai University lists 30 May each year (Hohai University, n.d.).
The Chinese teachers’ scholarship
Applications opened on 1 March 2026 at chinese.cn. The deadlines were 15 April for July starts and 15 May for September starts. After that came 15 September for December starts and 31 October for March starts (Beijing Institute of Technology, 2026). Expect the 2027 round to follow the same pattern.
University awards, and the later CSCA sittings
University awards cluster in May. Hunan Normal University’s First-Class Discipline award, for example, closed on 31 May 2026. The March, April and June CSCA sittings help self-funded applicants with later windows, but they come too late for most scholarship deadlines.
July–August 2027: Results and the Visa
CSC decisions came out in July last round, and the Jakarta embassy said July to August (Embassy of the PRC in Indonesia, 2025). Provincial results also land in July. Then the paperwork shifts to the admission letter and the JW202 form, and after that the visa.
That leaves about six weeks before a September start, so a China scholarships 2027 award is only half the job. Our guide to the China student visa explains the X1 route, and the student pre-departure checklist covers everything else.
Three Calendar Mistakes That Sink China Scholarships 2027 Applications
- Getting the medical or police certificate too early. Both expire, and some universities allow only three months for the police certificate.
- Booking the CSCA too late. A January sitting barely makes February deadlines, and later sittings miss most scholarships.
- Treating one date as national. Embassies, universities and provinces each set their own. A guide’s date, including this one, is only a starting point.
Frequently Asked Questions
When do China scholarships 2027 applications open?
Embassy notices usually appear from late October. University and provincial windows open from November onward. The Chinese teachers’ scholarship opens on 1 March.
Is it too late to apply for September 2027?
No. It is early. Most deadlines fall between February and June 2027.
Can I apply to several scholarships at once?

Do master’s applicants need the CSCA?
No. It applies to bachelor’s applicants. Postgraduates still need HSK or English scores, depending on the teaching language.
Which China scholarships 2027 deadline comes first?
For 2027 starts, probably the Chinese teachers’ scholarship for March entry on 31 October 2026. For September starts, the Type A embassy deadlines in February usually come first.
Plan Backwards From February
Treat February as the finish line for China scholarships 2027 and work back from it. December is for the CSCA and the medical. Autumn is for notarisation, shortlists and the study plan. If February goes badly, the provincial awards and later university windows give you another chance before summer.
Then, once the dates publish, replace every “last round” in this calendar with the real one. The pattern holds, but the exact days change. For the full application process, see how to apply to a Chinese university.
