The China-ASEAN Expo 2026 runs 17–21 September in Nanning, and it inverts the usual direction of a Chinese trade fair. Canton Fair sells Chinese goods to the world. The import expo in Shanghai brings the world’s goods to Chinese buyers. This one is narrower and stranger: it exists so that eleven Southeast Asian economies can sell into China, and so the two sides can argue out the plumbing that lets them.

What the China-ASEAN Expo 2026 Is

CAEXPO has been held in Nanning, capital of Guangxi, every year since 2004. The 2026 edition is the 23rd. CAEXPO splits into five standing themes rather than industry halls, which is why a first walk-through feels disorienting if you came expecting a Canton Fair floor plan.

A workable plan for a single day: national pavilions first thing, when the aisles are empty and stand staff are fresh; the summit sessions or thematic forums mid-morning; the AI and green-energy zones after lunch; follow-up meetings from four o’clock, when everyone has stopped pretending to walk the floor.

What Commonly Goes Wrong

  • Turning up without pre-registration. The badge is not a formality.
  • Assuming English throughout. Coverage is patchy outside the national pavilions.
  • Treating it as a Canton Fair clone. Different direction of trade, different buyers, different room.
  • Booking a hotel late. Expo week fills the district.
  • No local payment set up. Cash is accepted but awkward.
